AJAX v Williamstown

AJAX played their first game at Gary Smorgon Oval for 2023, taking on Williamstown. The game was fiercely contested with neither side prepared to back down.  Williamstown had the advantage of a strong wind in the first quarter placing AJAX’s backline under pressure.  The backline held up well and AJAX trailed by just 7 points at quarter time. 

The tables turned in the second quarter with AJAX holding a 6 point advantage at half time. Both sides were showing a strong commitment to the ball and taking advantage of the pressure being applied.

In the third quarter Williamstown jumped out of the blocks kicking 3 goals in the first 5 minutes. 

AJAX steadied and were in the game trailing by 15 points at ¾ time, but kicking with the aid of a strong breeze.  AJAX kicked a goal in the first minute and continued to apply pressure having a touched goal result in them being 1 point down with 5 minutes to play.  Unfortunately Williamstown kicked the last 2 goals of the match to eventually win by 14 points after the siren.
