AJAX v St Bedes/Mentone

AJAX won the toss and kicked with the aid of a 2-3 goal breeze in the first quarter.  St Bedes/Mentone showed more intent in the initial contests and were first to score opening a two goal break.  AJAX lifted the intensity in the contest and responded to be seven points up at quarter time.  

The second quarter saw a lift from the AJAX midfield, winning clearances and preventing St Bedes from capitalizing on the wind advantages.  The evenness of the contest was highlighted as AJAX dropped off by 5% enabling St Bedes to kick late goals and take a 16 point advantage into half time.  

AJAX’s deviation from the new game plane and their conservatism with ball in hand permitted St Bedes to wrestle control of the game in the third quarter.  AJAX started to move the ball with more intent from the backline in the last quarter but St Bedes ran out eventual winners by 40 points.

Post-match the coaching staff spoke to the playing group about trusting the new system that has been put in place and not accepting less than the group is capable of delivering.  This message needs to be heard and the appropriate response put in place before the challenge of Old Trinity this weekend.
