AJAX v De La Salle
Following the ending of the lockdown, AJAX’s D1 side returned to home turf against De La Salle.
A cagey opening few minutes saw De La Salle open the scoring, with the Jackas unable to apply the pressure necessitated to impose their will early. As De La Salle held the possession within their forward half, AJAX was able to withstand the pressure albeit briefly as De La Salle grabbed their second of the morning.
In the second term, the Jackas were subject to an intense press by De La Salle. However, in transition AJAX began to find their groove, opening their account followed by jubilant celebrations. De La Salle appeared quicker, faster and more composed on the ball yet the Jackas gradually found their way into the contest. The initial pressure was nullified as De La Salle scored their first of the second term by way of a fortunate spot kick. Shortly thereafter, De La Salle rocketed to a solid lead.
With much work to do in the second half, De La Salle opened the scoring ensuring they held a 30 point lead over the Jackas as the contest began to drift away from the grasp of AJAX. Though stagnant, the Jackas fought valiantly against the opposition, eager to open the gaps and expose the play with Reece Israel kicking pivotal goals. Heading into the final term, the Jackas needed a miracle to offset the considerable lead they were facing
The final term saw De La Salle pull away, with the Jackas unable to spur on a fightback despite their resilient crop of youngsters headed by Corey Schwartz and Charlie Gross. A few more goals saw De La Salle take victory, with the Jackas unable to overcome the large margin they were faced with.
