AJAX v Williamstown CYMS

The Development 1 team took on the Williamstown Reserves at Fearon Oval where there was a resounding return for fans. 

In a cagey yet tight affair, the two sides exchanged goals in the opening phases of the contest as the Jackas earnt themselves a tidy five point lead towards the close of the first quarter, whilst Williamstown were ineffective in their set shot opportunities. However, Ajax imposed their will early ensuring that they held the majority of ball, with Corey Schwartz and Brad Antman impressing. 

Williamstown struck early in the second quarter, crawling their way back into the contest, effective in holding the ball within their attacking half. Yet the Jackas struck back following beautiful interplay within the forward-line. As the tensions began to rise between the two sides,  chemistry began to flow as the Jackas continued to showcase their resilience, stretching their lead in the latter half of the second quarter through a Matthew Lincoln set-shot. Yet, Williamstown refused to let up, tightening the lead. At the close of the half, the Jackas maintained a seven point lead

AJAX came out of the gates immensely strong in the third quarter, taking all chances presented with ease, proving to be an inexorable force as soon after, unloading on Williamstown with three quick-fire goals within 10 minutes to earn a near 30 point lead with Bradley Caplan starring. Victory was seemingly ensured through shutting down Williamstown while in transition.

A cagey start to the final quarter left Williamstown to salvage anything from a rather sub-par performance as the Jackas began to turn on the jets, breaking away from tackles with ease despite the pressure that was applied. As AJAX began to approach the three-figure mark, it became glaringly apparent that it was a one-sided contest in order to secure an effective victory once again, ensuring positive form is retained moving into the second half of the campaign.
