Round 13

AJAX v Bulleen Templestowe AFC- Away
On a picture perfect winters morning, we headed to Bulleen, where a win would consolidate our place in fourth spot on the ladder.
Looking for a good start, it was Bulleen-Templestowe who began the better. Dominating play early, it was Bulleen who scored the first goal after a great handball chain and lead by that margin after the first part of the quarter. We soon found our groove and after a couple of misses it was young gun Hanna Goldberg who positioned herself beautifully and marked 15 metres out directly in front. She made no mistake and we went into quarter time 3 points in front.
We started the 2nd quarter off full of running and had it not been for our inaccuracy in front of goal we would’ve taken a good lead into the half. Boylan was knocking up the possessions as were J Caplan and A Caplan. Shustin was providing the link between the mids and forwards and Rainey was again damaging on the wing. Mrocki was back to her best in defence and Marget and Nankin were dangerous on the half forward line. Goals to Marget and Boylan stretched our lead to 25 points at the half. 2 goals 5 to no score in that term showed our dominance.
We were determined to go on with it in the 2nd half. Our mids were on top again and with Gabriel, Gunn, Payne-Gill and Riddle unpassable in defence and Klooger and Goldman getting plenty of it on the wings, we kept pushing the ball forward. Nankin finished off some great work up the ground and we took a 31 point lead into ¾ time.
Our mission at ¾ time was to try and kick 3 goals in the last quarter and we exceeded those expectations. We were full of running With both Caplans having plenty of it and with Folwell and Grek both showing plenty on ball and forward we kept moving the ball forward and giving our forwards every chance. Further goals to Marget, Nankin, Shustin, Klooger and Grek sealed the win in a terrific last quarter. Bulleen scored the first goal of the game in what also proved to be their only score of the game, in a terrific team effort by the Jackettes.
The win was soured somewhat with an unfortunate wrist injury to Abbey Sharbanee. We all wish her a speedy recovery.
A mini elimination follows next week against Whitefriars, with both teams fighting for the final spot in the 4.
Goals – Marget 2, Nankin 2, Shustin, Goldberg, Grek, Klooger, Boylan.
Bests – Shustin, Boylan, Rainey, Marget, J Caplan, Mrocki.
