Round 10
19 June 2021 Away
AJAX v Beaumaris
AJAX seniors took on Beaumaris at 2pm at Banksia Reserve. It was an unfortunate day and poor performance from the Jackas who were defeated by 44 points.
After a long layoff it was a welcome return to football for both sides. Rust from both teams was apparent early but it was Beaumaris who opened the scoring first. AJAX struggled to cope with Beaumaris's pressure early but slowly built into the game with repeat forward 50 entries. Unfortunately, it was poor ball use by the Jacka's which meant they couldn't take advantage on the scoreboard. Beaumaris were the more clinical team in front of goal kicking 4 for the term and leading 26-5 at quarter time.
AJAX started brightly in the second term. Jordan Cohen kicked his and the team's first goal of the game. To the team's disappointment, Beaumaris replied with their first goal of the second quarter instantly. AJAX turned the ball over numerous times which didn't allow them to make any inroads into the Beaumaris lead. AJAX trailed 43-15 at halftime.
Beaumaris opened the second half kicking quick back-to-back goals to lead 55-15. The Beaumaris structure meant AJAX struggled to the get ball past the centre square and were constantly pressured on their disposal. Beaumaris were not clinical in front of goal on kicking 3 goals in the quarter. Elliot Debinski tried to spark AJAX into a comeback with a late goal as the Jackas trailed 64-21 at the last break.
Unfortunately, the comeback wasn't to be. Despite the AJAX defence holding strong. Jordan Cohen was the only goal scorer for AJAX in the last quarter as they were defeated 72-27.
