Round 10
25 June 2023
AJAX v Glen Eira - Away
Not many days in life start out with with a campfire story of bodily effuse, but against the back drop of the mornings conditions and the life’s journey of todays captain, young Jonah Berman (aka SOPee), it seemed to be as good a place as any to commence proceedings
Interesting crew we have on hand to say the least!
Just as an aside, It’s strange to think that Kerry, James and Gretel wanted this little patch of grass in Carnegie named after their family, nonetheless, it was a real honour to play on the local ground even if it was at the early hour that better suit the U9s!
We got off to a great start, out scoring the opposition in the first quarter in to the wind. Problem was, we were also out scored in the second quarter kicking with the wind. Strange how that happens sometimes
The 1/2 time address was a special one. The room was quieter than the mouse in the local shule. As a coach you want to know that your players are listening and engaged. Kudos to the group for they way they were 110% in, and it showed through the second half
The win was built on a second half of grit, determination, commitment to the contest and a real hunger to win
This was no better exemplified by Matty Hendel who shone in the congestion finding a way to push through and score twice in traffic. Rosenwax was also solid repelling many opposition advances very similar to the IDF
In the end though, games come down to moments, and todays moments were owned by the two in the fluorescent yellow tops. For a moment there I thought they may sink us, but then, out of nowhere, they saved us. Zac Miller was the beneficiary their saving grace getting us over the line with a goal to keep the run of wins going.
Well done lads. We continue to build
