Match Report
Round 1
Saturday 1 April 2023
AJAX v Old Trinity
Despite the development team controlling most of the play in the opening term, they were unable to capitalise and went into quarter time 16 points behind Old Trinity.
Old Trinity was able to build that lead up to 26 points mid-way through the second term, before midfielder Daniel Raiter took a stand, putting his body on the line, unfortunately resulting in a concussion and facial fractures, ending his day early. His courage inspired the development team and was the turning point of the match, as they clawed it back to 20 points by half time.
At half time the team was urged to run and take the game on at all costs and pegged the margin back to 9 points by 3 quarter time.
The last quarter was a tight affair as AJAX hit the front with 10 minutes to go. Trinity gained the lead once more before Daniel Cohen kicked truly to put AJAX in front with 4 minutes to go. Jordan Bade-Kennett kicked the sealer with a mercurial snap from the boundary line with 90 seconds to go, as the AJAX Development Squad recorded their first win in 665 days.
Brandon Joel responded to his omission from the senior side with a best on ground performance, while Justin Berkowitz showed his class all day off half back.
