Round 14
Sunday 27 July 2025
AJAX v Old Scotch
In a grudge rematch against Old Scotch, the Jackas looked to continue their winning streak against the last team that they lost to, and in dramatic fashion. Back in round 7 when the sides met for the first time it was Scotch who left the game with the 4 points, as they reeled in a near 30 point deficit to win by just 3 points. The loss was a painful one for AJAX, who since that game looked to play their brand of footy with a newfound purpose and determination, this brand proved successful, as the Jackas went on a 5 game winning streak since that loss.
Come round 14, and the stage was set for a test of whether or not AJAX could show that they had truly elevated a level as a team, and beat their last rivals in Scotch. Playing away from home, the Jackas were determined to bring the heat on a cold day and did so in an arm wrestle of a first half, walking into the main break up by 3 goals. The standout of the first half was Amir Meyerowitz, with a blitz of three first quarter goals in a strong showing on his 50th game (Amir finished with 7 goals).
coming out for the second half, AJAX knew that they had to pile on the pressure, and they did exactly that, outscoring Scotch 5 goals to 2 in a dominant team quarter, featuring multiple goalscorers and a robust backline, this took them into 3 quarter time up by 34 points.
However, as AJAX knows well, Scotch don't roll over without a fight and looked to steal the game in the 4th quarter. In an initially shaky final term, there were concerns that a come from behind victory for Scotch could be on the cards, in similar fashion to their first showdown. However, displaying a new level of maturity as a team, the Jackas were able to rally, and stem the momentum with a goal of their own - consequentially shutting the game down with controlled ball movement and elite tackle pressure.
The final scores read 86-68 with the Jackas outlasting a persistent Scotch in a tough grubber match. AJAX now get to walk away with a satisfying 'revenge' win over Scotch, and are now poised nicely heading into the last two rounds of the regular season, with games against Xavs 2s and St Bernards in hand.
