AJAX v Marcellin

In a repeat of last year, AJAX senior club again travelled out to Marcellin College for their round 1 clash

There has been a fair amount of change in the off season with the appointment of Lachie Buszard as senior coach, new joint captains in Corey Zielinski and Kane Nissenbaum along with the usual retirements.  

With change comes opportunity and with that the club has also been fortunate to introduce newcomers to the senior squad in Jethro Gunn, Charlie Efron, Logan Seigel and  Jordy Rothfield who all made their senior debuts this week along with a number of others returning from long term injuries including Maor Chrapot

The first quarter was a tight tussle with Marcellin working hard to make it a stoppage contest. AJAX was able to stay in contention and weather the defensive focus of the opposition with both sides kicking 2 goals each

The start of the second quarter saw AJAX start to play its brand of football, spreading the play to the open parts of the ground where they were able to use their skill and speed more effectively. Jake Wrobel in the ruck along with Toby Sheezel were proving to be a handful for the opposition while Toby Lipton, Elliott Debinsky and Hutch Davis were resolute in defence. At half time AJAX had opened up a lead of 36 points

It was a similar story in the second half with the AJAX on ballers and defence controlling the contest eventually running out winners by 74 points.  It was a pleasing win while at the same time the coach noted that there is still further improvement in the group as they adapt to the new game plan for this year

Next weeks game is against St Bedes on Sunday afternoon at Elsternwick Park
