AJAX v Glen Eira - Away
Episode 3 – Vayehi Erev Vayehi Boker
Friday night footy commenced this week with the headline act, Glen Eira v AJAX
You could have stayed at home and watched St Kilda and Freemantle kick 5 goals between
them to half time OR you could have come to Packer Park and see young Fibishenko kick 4
goals and set up another in the first quarter. I know he doesn’t like to be singled out, but his
contribution on Friday night was incredible across the entire game. My favourite part – he came
with his own 20 person cheer squad – go Fibi!
It was a tough game throughout and it was our capacity to both hold Glen Eira to a low scare
and find ways to score goals ourselves when it was needed most that won us the game
The midfield was great, but this week, the game was won by the defenders. The back six are the
silent achievers – Feldy, Pipi, Grossy, Jacko, Simo and Moree – and if it sounds more like the
members of a rock band, that’s because they are one! The amount of times they stood firm and
repelled Glen Eira was countless. Add to that the great transitional work from Sternfeld and
Flinkier was fantastic too. Flinkiers 80m long goal to secure the win was a beauty too. Was great
to see so many of the new boys impact the contest and please, someone, tell Bradley to give
the round ball game away!
Shout out to Tyler Southwick who has been working off 3 hours sleep a night in his efforts to
stave off a Labour victory, showed great leadership across the game. A young man with a wise
old head on his shoulders
Special mention to Feldy to played his 50th game this week. We don’t do much to acknowledge
50’s at the club but given how tough the game can be on you, it’s a great achievement -
Congrats Feldy!
It was lovely to see so many new faces in the team and the number of family and friends. We are
blessed to have a great support group.
The almost final note
For the last two weeks I feel like I’ve been watching episodes of survivor. So many injuries
across all teams
I ask you to get around each other and support each other especially Jarrod Waislitz who did his
ACL on Saturday and Charlie “Chooka” Klein who goes under the knife this week to repair the
ACL he did a few weeks ago. We look forward to seeing them back next year better than ever
The final note …
This Sunday at Gary Smorgon Oval we will commemorate the passing of Gil Kras who sadly
passed away late last year
As part of the commemoration, we will have an address from members of his family, a minute
of silence and the retiring of his number 43 jersey
Gil was a beautiful young man and he is missed by all
