AJAX v Monash Blues - Home
The Jackas hosted Monash Blues at Gary Smorgon Oval after splitting their matchups one apiece last year. Coming off a strong win last week, the Seniors backed it up from the start, kicking 9 goals in the first quarter. Justin Vogel imposed himself on the game early with his ever-reliable hands, taking multiple contested marks and converting his opportunities. Ajax never looked back, dominating the first half with exciting ball movement.
AJAX's eagerness to take on the game with their short kicks and utilising the corridor where possible made for exciting attacking football and a monster first half score of 17.7 - 109.
At the half, AJAX captain Nick Lewis ensured the boys remained stuck to their task after some ill-discipline in the second quarter allowed Monash to kick multiple goals.
The boys responded, kicking another four goals and extending the margin in the third quarter. A highlight was Matt Lincoln’s run and ball use off of half-back, using his damaging kick to open the game up. Adam Caplan sealed what was a great day out for the Jackas with multiple miraculous goals in the final term.
Richie Simon and Justin Vogel finished with 5 goals apiece, however, the most pleasing aspect for coach Wayne Oswald was surely 10 individual goal kickers on the day.
Goals: Simon 5, Vogel 5, A Caplan 4, Cohen 3, Sheezel 3, Krongold 3, Lewis 1, B Caplan 1, Nissenbaum 1, Mond 1
Bests: Zielinski, Krongold, Sheezel, Lewis, A Caplan, Vogel
