AJAX v Glen Eira - Away
On a day where the weather seemed better suited for ducks than footballers, The Development team braved the pouring rain to take on Glen Eira at their home ground. With 21 changes over the past fortnight and a slew of players making their reserves debut, it was a match filled with firsts and surprises.
Right from the get-go, the young guns of AJAX showed they were ready to make their mark. Fan favourite Blacko, in a debut to remember, kicked his first goal with his very. At the first break, Ajax led by 9 points at the first break and extended that to 16 by half time.
The start of the third was an arm wrestle, but Brad Antman provided a moment of pure magic, breaking the game wide open with a miraculous snap goal that defied both physics and logic. Not to be outdone, moments later backman Jordan Tonkin snuck down forward and laid only his second tackle for the year resulting in another goal.
In the end, the final score read 44-30, sealing a well-deserved victory for Ajax. This win maintains the team to 2nd on the ladder, ready and raring to take on the top-of-the-table Parkdale after the bye.
One of the stars of the day was undoubtedly 16-year-old Manny Michmacher, who played like a seasoned veteran, earning himself a spot among the best on ground. Alongside him, Vice-Captain Jono Machlin, Max Bloom, and Justin Spicer put in stellar performances, ensuring AJAX stayed in control throughout the soggy contest.
With so many debutants and changes week to week and only one left on the bench by the end of the game it was a proud and memorable day for the whole club. Squad mentality in full force.
Next match is a top of the table rematch against Parkdale with the winner likely to take top spot on the ladder heading towards finals. Bring it on.
