Round 9

AJAX v Old Scotch - Home
Episode 8 – Old Hibiki
In an interesting turn of events we were named as the headline act of a quad-header on a beautiful Saturday morning at the home of football, Gary Smorgon Oval
Sometimes when you’re on your way to a football match you’ve got a few of those butterflies going around in your belly
Doubts, uncertainties, excitement, the unknown!
I suffered it a lot when I played football putting it down to the fact that every game meant something to me and I wanted to play well for the team
My butterflies had been away on a vacation for the last 6 months taking part in “Scotchy’s” travelling Butterfly Show www.butterflykidz.com.au , yet on this day the butterflies were back. They hadn’t really made an appearance since we played Old Glenmorangie in the Grand Final last year, but they were back big time!
(you should really look at the Tirumala Hamata aka the Blue Tiger www.butterflykidz.com.au/our-butterflies?pgid=lb4labgu-79f2ac5f-be2a-45db-b5b2-7b5aa2ac0183)
Old Balvenie belted us first time round in our very first game, we broke their winning streak at the GOG later in the season and then held on as our soldiers were falling down around us for a memorable win on the most important day of the footballing calendar last year
And here we were again up against Old Dumangin led by none other than Benny Goodman (lead singer of the Stich Ups)
Would they be good? Would they stack it again? Would they complain that we were misbehaving again? (Felix the Friendmaker)
Well the answers came pretty quickly for me. One, the lads arrived focused and ready. They knew this was important and they were up for it. Two, the scoreboard was already ticking over early and it was clear that we were here to play. And three, body language is an interesting thing …
The backline should take most of the credit for the win repelling every Old Glenfarclas sortie. They were organised, combative and worked tirelessly together led by H and Rowdy and Tye Hyphen
The forwards also had a great day with Mattstringer Hendel and Rosenwaxon ripping the hearts out of the Old Laphroaig backline
More broadly it was a great day for the club hosting the President of the AFL at our very own Presidents Lunch, the unfurling of both the 2023 Mens Thirds and Jackettes Pennants, and hosting the women in a match that finished under lights at the GOG. As Bruce would say “SPECIAL”
A special thanks to everyone who volunteered and helped make this day a memorable one for the club
