Round 7

AJAX v Hampton Rovers
We were up against the undefeated ladder leaders and this was going to be a great test of where we were at.
In perfect conditions and playing on the large Hampton oval we were looking to test our opponents early. Some late outs left us with no rotations, however the feeling was good amongst the team and we were ready to fight.
Kicking with a slight breeze in the first quarter we started ferociously and after holding sway for the first part of the quarter, it was a great piece of play by A Caplan, who continued driving the ball forward and found Ossip who then calmly slotted through the games first. Hampton were struggling to break our half back line of Mrocki, Gabriel and T Blum and when Klooger took a fantastic intercept mark in between two Hampton players, played on and kicked a goal, the girls were up and about and 2 goals to the good. A dubious free kick and a 25 metre penalty in the last minute of the quarter gave Hampton their first.
The second quarter saw Hampton take control. The Jackettes were trying hard but Hampton scored 3 goals to none for the quarter. Micmacher, Amira and Sacks were starting to shine for us and Aarons was starting to get a bit of the ball. The half time break seemed to come at a good time.
Hampton finished the 3rd quarter as they left off, slamming on 3 goals to none. The girls were trying hard and our defenders stood tall. Gabriel and Mrocki were doing outstanding jobs, Tia Blum was showing a lot of dash, A Caplan and Marget were getting a lot of the ball, Taylor was looking threatening in the forward line and Shustin also got plenty of the ball and did not stop running all day. Grek was solid in the ruck.
Hampton won the last quarter on the scoreboard, but the girls never stopped trying.
Goals: Ossip, Klooger.
Best: Blum, Klooger, Mrocki, A Caplan, Gabriel, Shustin
